Wedding Videography - Creative Gifts Using Old Photos and Videos

Finding the perfect gift for family and friends has always been a difficult task especially during the holidays. You can spend countless hours in a shopping mall looking for gifts and you'll still end up empty handed. We usually think that the best gifts are those expensive perfumes or branded cashmere sweaters but they are not.

A good gift does not depend on an item's price tag but on the thought put into it. The most treasured presents are not something you can just pick out in a catalogue or buy in a shop. The best ones can be those that can preserve your memories forever. The possibilities can be endless, from videos of a scene from your sister's wedding videography or your son's graduation photos. You just need to have a little bit of imagination and patience to come up with the perfect gift. Here are a few gift ideas using old photos and videos that might inspire you:

• Quilts using family photos

A photo quilt is an emerging trend in quilt making. This fresh idea of mixing design, color and pictures is an interesting deviation from the traditional way of stitching a bed quilt. Including pictures in quilt designs gives pieces a more personal and sentimental meaning.

Photo quilts are great graduation and birthday gifts. Pick unique photos of the celebrant and add this to the quilt design. You can also add a few memorable lines or sayings to make it more personalized.

• Home movies using old videos and pictures

You have tons of old videos and photos stored in your basement. They keep on accumulating every year especially during the holidays. Why not organize these photos and videos and create a home movie as a gift for your family. You may need a lot of time and persistence for this project so it's good you start early in the year.

Start by collecting videos and photographs from your family like birthdays and holidays. Organize all of these and come up with creative ideas for the videos for each member of your family. One example would be to create a photo and video slideshow of your brother during the different stages in his life, from his baby pictures to his recent wedding. His wedding videography will be a good source of some of these videos.

• Scrapbooks

Scrapbooks have always been a creative way of preserving personal and family history with photographs. It often serves as the storyteller of your life experiences using pictures and words.

A scrapbook contains photos, plane tickets, programs or anything that can be added to tell the story behind the pictures. There are usually two approaches to scrap booking. These are chronological and themed-based scrap booking.

• Customize calendars using photos

A photo calendar will be a unique gift for anniversaries, birthdays and other special events. Calendars are used in our everyday lives so there is no doubt it will be used frequently. The good thing about this gift is that you can customize the photos on each month the way you want them.

There are a lot more unique ways to come up with a meaningful present. Remember it is not the price that counts but the heart and thought that goes with the gift. You just have to spend a little time and effort to think of one.

A Few Quick Hints For Photography Techniques

Just aim and shoot, right? Anyone that's interested in photography knows better than to think that taking pictures is just that simple. Sure, pointing your camera at something and taking a picture will certainly record an event, but if you really want photographs that are worth looking at year after year, you may be interested in some more advanced photography techniques. Well, whether you're just taking pictures on vacation and of your friends when they come over, or if you are looking to actually start making money from your photos, we have some great but simple photography techniques you can try.

The Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds is one of those basic photography that is typically applied to shots like landscapes or nature scenes, where it's easy to have a picture of just one element. If you've ever looked at that photo of a beautiful lake or sunset and thought that is just didn't quite capture the beauty of the scene the way you remember it, you may want to consider the Rule of Thirds. This is where there are three distinct layers or parts of your photo. For example, suppose you want to take a shot of that beautiful lake where you're staying on vacation. The blue water against the blue sky is going to make everything blend in. Applying professional photography techniques to this type of shot means waiting until sunset when the setting sun breaks up the lake against the sky. This is the Rule of Thirds - you have the sky, the sun, and the lake; three distinct parts.

This is also good for photographing something like autumn foliage. A jumble of color is not going to have much interest. Try to apply these photography techniques by adjusting your shot so that you have the sky above those trees and perhaps a field or hill below them. The Rule of Thirds gives you those three distinct parts, and makes those beautiful autumn leaves that much more outstanding.

Angles

Trying different angles is one of the most used photography techniques by professionals. Again, if you just point and shoot at your subject, then you have a photo of them that has not much interest or depth. You may document what you're shooting, but that's about it.

Applying photography techniques for angles means moving yourself and your camera around for unique and interesting shots. If you want to shoot a beautiful flower garden, try getting right down on the ground so they're in front of you, rather than just standing above them. To take a picture of your new motorcycle, try getting down on the ground and aiming above you so that it really captures the majesty of the bike. Play around a bit with angles when it comes to pictures of people as well; by being experimental and creative, you can come up with your own special photography techniques that are perfect for you, your subjects, and your photos.

How to Choose a Photography Club

How to Choose a Photography Club or Camera Club.

Do you feel alone in your photography? Why not consider joining a camera club? Joining a club can be a good experience especially if you are around people that share the same passion.

Here are some tips in choosing a club.

1. Look for a club that is accessible to you. Going to club meetings is fun but if they too far away, there may be a million reasons not to go that is why location of the club is criteria in choosing a club.

2. Look for a club that share the same passion and zest for photography. Am sure you would like to be caught in a room of gear heads that think the best equipment = the best photographer. Choose wisely since these are the people you will be shooting with on your photo trips.

3. Look for a club with a good mix of members. A good variety of taste is good because it will expose you to different types of talent around. Seeing is learning and the more attractive photos you see the better. You can get first crack on interviewing someone on his "techniques and tricks"

4. Look for a club that is willing to share in their experiences. Some clubs are too competitive and it is everyman for hiimself. This doesnt instill sharing and competition can sometimes get out of hand.

5. Look for a club that loves photography and the art of taking pictures not a group that uses photography as a guise for other deeper and darker plans.

6. Look for a club that suits your budget. Some clubs spend a lot on photo trips and photo expeditions. Joining clubs that do these things in excess can be harmful to the pocket.

7. Join a club that has experience. There are new clubs and there are old clubs, join a club rich in tradition and experience so you can take advantage of the rich and diverse culture they present to you.

8. Join a club that is active in promoting its craft. Having exhibits are one of the main goals of the club, showing your work can be a rewarding experience. Look for a club that actively participates in photography activities and exhibits.

Am sure if you go over the above list you will find that the clubs you join should be a place where you will fit in. They are a group you should grow with and are willing to share what they learn along the way.

Happy Shooting!
